Reverend Robert Denton
Dr. Denton is the Executive Director of the Safety Forces Chaplaincy Center. Denton has served as chaplain for the Akron police Department since the 1980ís, a position which has been co-sponsored by the FOP7 and the Furnace Street Mission. This Center, created in 2010, includes the Akron Fire Department, and extends services to surrounding police and fire departments in Summit County and beyond as needed. Within both departments, he has worked across the various boundaries between line officers, FOP leadership and the Chiefís Office in addressing numerous issues providing a useful bridge for addressing officer difficulties.
The Chaplaincy Center provides confidential, cost-free, counseling for all law enforcement and fire safety professionals, their families and civilian employees in the county. Its services include material assistance, counseling, substance abuse counseling, professional and community education and non-political advocacy for police, fire safety, dispatch and their families. Through its various services, the program connected with well over 6,000 individuals last year.
